Maik Paap, M.A.

Maik Paap is a Research Associate and doctoral candidate in the MeDiMi project “Migration and the Humanrightization of ‘Health’: Paradigms, Practices and Conflicts”. He works primarily on discourses of human rights and migration in international organizations, with a focus on state action. Maik Paap studied political science (major) and law (minor) at Leuphana University Lüneburg. He deepened this combined interest in his master's degree in international politics and international law at Christian Albrecht University in Kiel. During his studies, he worked in various associations on topics such as development cooperation (Viva con Agua de St. Pauli e.V.) and migration (Refuge Law Clinic Kiel e.V. and Refugee Law Clinics Deutschland e.V.). Within MeDiMi, he has been committed to networking and cooperation among research assistants by establishing and co-directing the section “Human Rights Discourses in the Migration Society” at the Giessen Graduate Centre for Social, Economic and Legal Sciences (2023–2025). His research interests lie in the areas of access to human rights (human right to health) for refugees, human rights discourses in international relations, and the impact of international treaties on domestic state action.
