In the current political conjuncture, debates on migration serve the ever-greater consolidation and strengthening of right-wing politics, infringing on human rights of people impacted by asylum and migration policies. Racist narratives are increasingly normalized, while voices of activists of the refugee and migrant movements are silenced. In this panel discussion, activists of Women in Exile, International Women* Space, Respect and the Karawane für die Rechte der Flüchtlinge und MigrantInnen will discuss the current situation and propose ways to collectively strengthen human rights.
Organized by: Chair of Culture and Migration – Goethe University Frankfurt and the DFG Research Group Human Rights Discourse in Migration Societies (MeDiMi)
Speakers:
Jennifer Kamau is an activist, researcher, and one of the initiators of the International Women* Space, a network of (former) asylum seekers and migrants.
Elizabeth Ngari is a founding member, activist, coordinator, and administrator of the Women in Exile, initiative fighting for rights of refugee women.
Eunice Muhonja Ngase is a member of Respect e.V., fighting for the rights of illegalized migrant women, especially in the area of paid care work.
Araz Ardehali is an activist of the Caravan for the rights of refugees and migrants, a self-organization of refugees and migrants with a strong anti-colonial stand including activists without refugee/migrant background.
