Dr. Giulia Santomauro
Giulia Santomauro is a post-doctoral researcher in constitutional law at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa and an associated researcher in the MeDiMi project “Systemic Deficiencies in the System of Protecting the Human Rights of Migrants: the Inter-American and the European Court of Human Rights in Comparison”. Prior to that, she was a Research Associate in the project “Rights and Democracy: the Multilevel Protection of Fundamental Rights and the Role of Constitutional and European Courts” at Sapienza University of Rome. In 2022, she completed her PhD in Public, Comparative and International Law as a stipend-holder with distinction and Doctor Europaeus Mention at Sapienza University of Rome, defending a dissertation on the protection of the right of asylum in contexts of crisis according to a comparative constitutional law perspective. In 2021, she was a guest researcher at the Department of Constitutional Law of the University of Barcelona, where she also collaborated with the Research and Study Group on Migrants’ Rights (GESDI). Previously, she worked at Trinity College Dublin as a Research and Teaching Assistant. She earned a master’s degree in International Relations and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Sapienza University of Rome. Giulia’s research interests mainly concern migration and asylum law. Her work has been published, among others, in a collective volume by Brill on the European Court of Human Right’s jurisprudence in migration related cases.
