Silas Gläß, M.A.

Silas Gläß is a Research Associate in the MeDiMi project “Human Rights as Reference Point of Professional Ethics for Social-Educational Practice in Migration Societies” and a PhD candidate at the Chair of Educational Science with a focus on the pedagogy of adolescence at the University of Giessen. His doctoral studies are funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation (since 01/2026). He studied Educational Science with a focus on extracurricular education in Giessen. During his Master’s studies, he worked as a student assistant in the MeDiMi research project, which resulted in his Master’s thesis titled “Professional Self-understandings of Social Work in Migration Societies.” While his Master’s thesis followed a discourse-analytical approach, his doctoral project has a biographical-reconstructive design. In this project, he investigates orientation and legitimation patterns of social pedagogues under conditions of increasing political interventions by adversaries of human rights in the field of child and youth services. His further research interests lie in political education, educational research on professions, and education and social law. He has a particular focus on the ethical and normative foundations of pedagogical practice.
